Jugoistočni Teksas se bori s razornim poplavama
Tropska oluja Harvey je pogodila teksašku obalu u petak navečer, a izazvala je katastrofalnu poplavu. Škole, zračne luke i uredi u Houstonu su zatvoreni jer su ceste poplavljene, a voda u mnogim četvrtima doseže do prsa. Karen Maginnis, meteorologinja s CNN-a, prognozira još najmanje četiri dana kiše.
Više od 50.000 ljudi evakuirano je iz dijelova okruga Fort Bend, oko 55 kilometara jugozapadno od Houstona, a rijeka Brazos ovaj bi tjedan trebala dosegnuti vodostaj od 18 metara, 4,3 metra iznad razine izlijevanja. U nekim obalnim dijelovima Teksasa ukupne padaline mogle bi do kraja tjedna iznositi 127 cm, što odgovara godišnjem prosjeku.
Ovo je najgora poplava u povijesti Houstona
Jake kiše pogodile su područja udaljena više od 240 kilometara, podignuvši vodostaje rijeka koje sada prijete gradu. Zasada se zna da je poginulo najmanje petero ljudi, a mnogi su ozlijeđeni. Američki predsjednik Donald Trump planira u utorak posjetiti Teksas. U petak je proglasio stanje elementarne nepogode, što je omogućilo slanje savezne pomoći.
